PCS were engaged by Jaydo to install precast concrete ring beams and lids to existing sewer manholes as part of the Lockerbie Main Sewer project. The projects spans 916m, north of Donnybrook Rd on Springs Rd, running alongside the Melbourne-Sydney Railway. The project is crucial in collecting and transferring sewage flows from the majority of proposed new developments and communities in the Donnybrook, Beveridge, and Lockerbie area. PCS installed a total of 26 manhole edge beams and 29 lids, varying from 1.85m in diameter to 4.5m. As well as the construction of a 2.2m deep reinforced concrete pit.
During this project, we were required to work around deep, open manholes that presented a risk of falling more than 2m. To use conventional fall arrest systems would have meant pouring concrete anchor points across the entire site at every single manhole. This would cause significant inefficiencies and cost additions to the project. To navigate this challenge, PCS developed the Safe Block system; an engineered working-from- heights solution that utilises a concrete block with anchor points that allows a safe and easy connection. More importantly, the concrete blocks are mobile which allowed PCS to relocate the system to any location, saving time & cost on this project.
